Syd Meyer is a filmmaker and creative director, the founder of SSS Lighthouse Creative and the host of Kids Like Us. She walked away from a top business school, moved across the country with a camera and no income, and built the agency from zero. She documents all of it, in public, while it is still happening.

Syd runs SSS Lighthouse Creative, the video agency she built from zero, and hired her first full-time employee at 22. Behind the agency sits Beacon Engine, a system that puts your ideas to work.
She directs and shoots her own films, including Wind Bound, a short about women kiteboarders in Charleston. She also hosts Kids Like Us, a podcast and community for ambitious 18 to 26 year olds.
Why did Syd Meyer drop out of college?
She was a straight-A student at a top business school, and she walked away to give a small dream room to breathe. She moved across the country with no job, no income and a camera, couch-hopped for a year and a half to fund the business, and taught herself the craft through what she calls YouTube University.
The line she lives by now: disciplined by her dreams.
Is Syd Meyer a kiteboarder?
Yes, and a filmmaker inside the sport. She doesn't compete and she isn't paid to ride. Brands work with her for the media she makes. What she loves most is helping people discover kiteboarding, especially women.
She directed Wind Bound, a short film about the women kiteboarders of Charleston and the doubt women and girls face in a male-dominated sport. It launched her filmmaking career. It was a Finalist at the Wild Wind Film Fest 2024 and an Official Selection of the Carolina Surf Film Festival 2024. She has had three knee surgeries, the first one botched, and kept building through all of it.

Kids Like Us is a podcast and a community for ambitious 18 to 26 year olds who stay naïve on purpose. On the mic: honest conversations about chasing a dream before you know how. Off the mic: pop-ups and meetups in real cities. Syd isn't anyone's guru. She's just making the proof public.
